These hand-carved poster cases on the inside of the entrance to the forecourt at Grauman's Chinese have been with the theatre since the end of the Second World War, in 1945. This is its latest paint job, done by Amy Higgins during the 2001 remodel.
Grauman's Chinese. Two words that have always meant "Hollywood," both the real and the imagined. The Chinese has, for so long, held such a prominent place in the worlds of picturemaking, exhibition, and theatre architecture, that it would be difficult to imagine Hollywood without it.
Grauman's is the last remaining deluxe movie palace from the 1920s still showing movies, having gone through another remodeling in order to continue doing so. This site is dedicated to everything about the Chinese Theatre. Feel free to look around!
The famous "Forecourt of the Stars" is now explored on graumanschinese.org! The history of the Forecourt, bio pages on every honoree, links to their films, photos and best of all, a clickable Forecourt map, both small and large. Enjoy!
