Tamer Hosny is a very popular Egyptian singer and songwriter. After releasing his first album in 2004, he began headlining in lighthearted films produced in Egypt, with many of them being released throughout the Arabic-speaking world. He has released 15 albums, performs often and his films have generally been hits.
Details of Hosny's career are a bit thin, but he was born in Cairo; his father was Egyptian and his mother Syrian. As a teenager, Tamer had a strong interest in playing soccer (football), this led to a role as a soccer player at age 12 in a short film called Khat El Nehaya - The End Line in 1990. Just how he came to write music and sing, as well as play guitar, piano and violin - well, we will have to await for more biographical details.
After his first album, Hob was released, Hosny played the co-lead of Youssef in Love Situation with Heba Abdel Ghany (released in November 2004). He must have caused a sensation, because he headlined and sang songs in his next film, the comedy Sayyed el-Atefi - Emotional Sayyed with Abla Kamel (released in July 2005).
While more facts are needed, when Hosny turned 18 in 1995, he was required to serve in the Egyptian Army for one year. He was able to postpone this somehow, but when he turned 30 in 2007, becoming too old for Army service, the authorities caught
him using forged papers and was sentenceed to a one-year prison term, during which, he wrote scripts and music. He released an album, El Gana Fi Byotna that year.
After his release, the next film he starred in was the rom-com he co-wrote, Omar & Salma with Mai Ezz Eldin (released in June 2007); next up was Kabten hima - Captain Hima, described as a "comedy musical" with the singer Zeina - wearing a tight t-shirt. It was released in August 2008.
Since Omar & Salma had been a big hit, Hosny and Mai Ezz Eldin starred again as a married couple with children in Omar & Salma 2 (which was a television movie, aired over an unknown network in May 2009). For his first straight dramatic role, Hosny played a double role of two different men who court a blind woman in Noor Aini - The Light of My Eyes with Menna Shalabi (released in May 2010).
In 2011, Hosny got his very own television show: Adam, which aired 30 episodes. The show seems to have been a drama where Adam's father is sent to prison; while trying to provide for the family, he falls in love, but the girl is murdered, and so, he has to seek revenge. The stuff of drama. Well, actually, you can watch the whole thing on YouTube, but there are no subtitles.
With Adam behind him, Hosny returned to movie theatres with Omar & Salma 3, again with Mai Ezz Eldin, where the pair has to rescue their daughter, who has been kidnapped. It was released in January 2012. He starred in the rom-com Ahwak as Dr. Sherif, a plastic surgeon, who becomes romancially involved with a young woman - and her mother (released in September 2015).
Tisbah ala Khair - Good Night is described as a "comedy drama crime mystery romance" where Hosny plays an engineer named Hossam Khedive, who apparently lives an alternative life (released in June 2017). And it was the release of Good Night which occassioned Mr. Hosny having his footprints taken inside the Chinese before a screening of the film on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
In his next film El-Badlah - The Suit, Tamer co-wrote and stars with his older brother Akram Hosny as two guys who go to a costume party as policemen - you can figure the rest. A re-make of Let's Be Cops, it was released in August 2018; The Suit is the only Hosny feature (that we know of) to stream - it is on Amazon Prime. El-Fuloos - The Money is another action thriller comedy romance, where Hosny plays a conman charged with conning another conman (released in December 2019).
Hosny does quite a bit of physical comedy in Not Me (released in June 2021). For the rom-com Bahebek - I Love You Hosny stars, co-wrote and directed himself as Ali, who, about to be married has to deal with an ex barging in on the proceedings (released in July 2022).
Tag is billed as an "action comedy;" Hosny wrote the script and stars as a music teacher who finds his superpower. Chaos ensues (released in June 2023). While the editors of this site thought that the Hosny footprinting was "unofficial" in 2017, the Hosny block was embedded in the Forecourt sometime in the summer of 2024, which is darn near a seven-year gap. |
